The CPR Electrical team recently completed a significant installation project for Barrett Burston Malting Company (BBM), renowned for its premium malt production. Project Overview
A state-of-the-art kiln was installed at BBM, replacing the older system to enhance the malt production process. This installation was critical in boosting the facility’s efficiency and production capabilities.
Scope of Work
- Electrical and Data Installations: We upgraded the electrical infrastructure with high-performance systems and state-of-the-art data cabling for enhanced communication and control.
- PLC Systems: New Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) were installed, providing superior processing power and reliability, which is crucial for optimal kiln operation.
- VSD Installations: Installed Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) on two 690V 600kW fan motors, essential for the gas-heated kiln, optimising energy use and operation smoothness.
- Additional Installations: Implemented various conveyor systems, safety lanyard switches, slide gates, rotary valves, pneumatic solenoid valves, and a range of sensors, both digital and analog, to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
- Comprehensive Installations: Included multiple motors, instruments, plant lighting, an impressive 35 pole slip ring, a new switchroom, and kiosks (415V 2MVA and 690V 1.5MVA), all integrated seamlessly into the existing plant which continued to operate at full production throughout the project.
- Power Surveys and Thermo Scans: Conducted detailed power surveys and thermal imaging to ensure the upgraded system’s safety and efficiency.
- 24-Hour Breakdown Service: Continuous support and rapid response ensured the project progressed without delays, maintaining BBM’s production schedule.
